Bringing smiles to children’s faces

Andrea Sherpa-Zimmermann is a passionate Swiss mountaineer, ex-elite athlete, sports lawyer, and entrepreneur. In addition to the Wild Yak Expeditions travel agency she founded together with her husband, Andrea also co-founder, the charity organisation “The Butterfly Help Project” in 2015. One of the humanitarian organisation’s aims is to support the families of the Sherpas who have lost their lives in the mountains while doing their job. The same year, they miraculously survived the terrible earthquake in Nepal while two kilometres from the epicentre which reached 7.8 on the Richter scale. At that moment, Andrea and Norbu decided to help the population of the most affected regions of Nepal by bringing food and rebuilding schools. As a result, the reconstruction projects of schools and support to the local people are more up-to-date than ever.

Norbu Sherpa was born at 3600 metres above sea level in the east of Nepal. He rapidly scaled the hierarchical system of the expedition world to become a leader in the thin air. Motivated to support the local economy, Norbu co-founded the trekking & expeditions agency WILD YAK EXPEDITIONS together with his wife Andrea Sherpa-Zimmermann, as well as the outdoor clothing brand “DRONG – the Wild Yak.” Along with his entrepreneurial spirit, he aims to fight for better education in the remote regions of Nepal through the charity organisation The Butterfly Help Project that he has also co-founded with his wife.

Thanks to the donations from proceeds of the NEVEREST watches, we have been able to support the children of Sherpas who have lost their lives in the mountains and we are making great progress on the hostel to make it easier for them to attend school.
